Archbold Logistics Joins 700 UK Logistics Businesses to Offer Emergency Delivery Service

Heywood-based Archbold Logistics has joined over 700 logistics businesses, all members of the UK’s eight major distribution networks, to put their combined fleet of 23,500 vehicles at the government’s disposal.

In an unprecedented move headed by the Association of Pallet Networks (APN), the networks have joined forces to offer their services for the express distribution of critical emergency and food supplies.

Between them they have 30,000 employees, over 750 depots, and offer 100 per cent national coverage by postcode. As member of the Palletforce network, Archbold Logistics is a leading distribution specialist within its own region, with knowledge of local distribution centres, essential businesses, hospitals and community hubs.

Alan Maher, Managing Director of Archbold Logistics said: “We are proud to play our part in this unique collaboration as the entire UK industry joins forces to transport the most vital supplies. Collectively our sector has unrivalled resource and the individual companies are local experts with vast experience of express distribution as a key link in the UK supply chain.”

Michael Conroy, Palletforce chief executive, said: “With members delivering to every UK postcode daily, Palletforce is uniquely placed to offer express distribution of critical goods – safely, quickly and reliably – underpinned by unrivalled local knowledge.”

APN chairman Paul Sanders says: “We are uniquely placed to offer our services to ensure that emergency supplies coming from anywhere and destined for any corner of the UK, can be delivered quickly, safely and reliably to support critical services, whether in rural or urban settings. The distribution of emergency supplies for critical operations – not least ensuring food in our supermarkets and well stocked pharmacies and hospitals – is one of the most important aspects of protecting the UK public during this crisis.”

Pallet networks are one of the most efficient forms of freight distribution enabling overnight deliveries of consignments of any size from a single pallet upwards, anywhere in the UK. Regional members collect freight from their local area, and transport it to the most appropriate regional Hub, where it is reloaded onto vehicles returning to its destination area.

This model is particularly important at a time when many users of essential goods are requiring small frequent deliveries of vital goods with many drop points within a given locality. In 2019 UK pallet networks delivered 26 million pallets of goods.

Archbold Logistics New Website

It’s an amazing fact, but Archbold has been supporting British industry for over a century.

The heritage section of our new website showcases the Company’s 100 year history and reveals an astonishing collection of old photos – and who doesn’t like old nostalgic images!

However, there’s also plenty new to talk about at Archbold.

We might have clocked up our first century, but nobody can accuse us of not moving with the times.

Take for instance our brand new website which shows how far we have come over the years and where we are heading.   It outlines our services and commitment to ensuring your shipments arrive with your customer efficiently, on time and in the condition you both expect.

Read about our UK-based business, our special express services and our growing global presence. There’s also an outline of our latest fleet which encompasses a broad range of transport types and sizes which ensures we can offer exactly the right unit for your job.

Why not log on and look in?  We are sure you will find just the information you need about our Company.  And if you are feeling nostalgic, there’s also the odd old pic to have a look at…..they are amazing!!

Top benefits of hiring our trucking service

There’s no escaping the fact that truck running costs continue to rise at above the rate of inflation year on year.  This trend shows no sign of stopping any time soon.

With annual ownership running costs ranging from an estimated £70,000 plus for a 7.5 tonne vehicle and more than double that amount for a 44 tonne curtain-sider, you have to be moving an awful lot of goods in substantial loads on a daily basis for vehicle ownership to make economic sense.  Add to this the risk of disruption due to breakdowns or driver illness and the prospects of doing your own thing look less rosy.

With Archbold Logistics you have the assurance of a professional service geared exactly to your needs at a cost which compares favourably and with none of the downside.  Because we have a large fleet with a variety of different types of vehicle, we can gear what you get exactly to what you need.

Our fleet ranges from vans to large trailers and specialist trailers, and because we work for a broad range of prestigious clients throughout UK industry it allows us to consolidate loads to ensure you get absolute best value for money.

What’s more, our century of experience gained over four generations ensures we know everything there is about getting goods from A to B efficiently, safely, and on schedule.

Why choose our warehousing service?

Of all logistics services available in the UK, outsourcing warehousing and distribution is becoming one of the fastest growing sectors.

More and more companies than ever are realising they can hand this key link in their supply chain to companies geared up to handle all aspects of warehousing and distribution from collection of finished goods to delivery with their customer.

At Archbold we see this side of our business as an exercise in time and space – we save you the time and expense involved in moving goods onward and reduce the valuable space involved in storing and processing goods for onward shipment.

OK, it’s a bit of a well-worn phrase nowadays but we really do provide that “one-stop shop” dedicated to moving your goods efficiently and competitively. That means you can concentrate on doing the stuff you do really well – running your business and making your products – while we take care of the nitty gritty of processing and moving orders on to your customers.

Of course, our four depots which are strategically located in key areas of the UK offer much more than just space. They are the focal point for a host of services that help to make your job easier.

Think of all those helpful services and then think about how much easier life would be if you could hand them all over to someone else – like Archbold – give us a ring and let’s see what we can do.
